SensoMatters works together with various partners when it comes to offering our courses and lectures. It all started with our founder; Monique Thoonsen.
Monique
Thoonsen
Monique (our founder) is an expert in sensory processing, and she writes, teaches and consults on this subject. She is fascinated by how sensory processing works, which is why she has decided to dedicate her professional life to it. She started doing this in the 1990s, when she was working in the U.S.A.
Monique has taken many courses at Sensory Integration International, the organization of Jean Ayres (founder of Sensory Integration Theory). In The Netherlands she has studied the subject further by reading books and taking even more courses. She has now written four books on the subject in Dutch and one of these books was translated in English: Sensory Solutions in the classroom.
There are solutions for being under- or overresponsive, solutions that are practical and easily fit into people's daily routine!
As a physiotherapist and pedagogue, she advised and guided hundreds of children, adults, parents and teachers in cases where difficult behavior was caused by problems in sensory processing. She has experience with different groups: people without disabilities, with a (severe) intellectual disability, with autism, with a language development disorder, gifted people, people who are deaf or hard of hearing, students in special education and students in regular education.
It’s her mission to share information and practical strategies about being under- and overresponsive with as many people as possible. So that people feel better and can therefore live and learn better!
Over the years, Monique has managed to gather several fellow specialists who support SensoMatters, such as Ingeborg Snel.
Monique
Thoonsen
Monique Thoonsen is an expert in sensory processing, writer, and educator. Fascinated by how the senses shape daily life, she has dedicated her career to helping others understand and support sensory needs.
Her journey began in the 1990s while working in the U.S.A., where she studied with Sensory Integration International, founded by Dr. Jean Ayres, the pioneer of Sensory Integration Theory.
Monique has authored several books in Dutch and English, including Sensory Solutions in the Classroom and Making Sense of Your Senses. Through SensoMatters, she continues to share this passion worldwide, turning scientific insights into everyday understanding.
Ingeborg
Snel
Ingeborg Snel is a speech and language therapist and has been working for almost 20 years with clients with multiple disabilities, including people with cognitive and communication difficulties. She specializes in communication, sensory processing, interaction and video interaction guidance/coaching. Ingeborg has extensive experience working with deaf children with multiple disabilities.
In 2017, together with colleagues, she developed HoorSpel (“Hearing Game”), a programme that uses enjoyment, music, sounds and movement to train hearing skills.
Alongside providing courses and training, Ingeborg works in a multidisciplinary team at ‘Koninklijke Kentalis’. There, she combines diagnostics, consultation, coaching and treatment in the field of communication and sensory processing for this client group.
She has broad experience in both education and care and is currently working within the Kentalis Communication Treatment Team.
